Spinney Music
Digipak Designs
The goal of this college assignment was to challenge your creative ability by using randomly acquired quotes,
article names, and images. Whatever result was randomly returned were the elements you were required to
design the album covers. The designs were to be an eye-catching promotional stunt for Spinney Music website.
I tackled the challenge by creating designs that matched the mood of the image I had randomly selected. One looked like a creepy image of a young man in the military. I repeated that imagery on all the media. I flipped him over on the back cover to further the eeriness of the piece.
The second design I got Monopoly as the album name and it paired perfectly with an image of an older man that looked like Rich Uncle Pennybags from the Monopoly game. I repeated his image from the front to the back of the design using colours on the monopoly board. I wanted it to have a fun and playful feel like the game itself.
My third image was an iceberg. I had randomly selected the T. S. Eliot’s Quote: “Success is relative. It is what we make of the mess we have made of things.” I used a portion of the quote “the mess we have made of things” to add to the visual impact of the design. I wanted to make a commentary on how humans are making a mess of the earth, so I paired the natural beautiful icebergs that are melting on the cover with a dump truck “dumping” the album names into a pit on the back cover.
The last design I got Default Password for the album name, so I leaned into using the “Blue Screen of Death” for the final design. I used the same system font you see before your computer dies.
